Please outline your experience and involvement with LG Professionals WA and the WA Local Government Sector.
With more than twenty years serving as Chief Executive Officer in a variety of local governments, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our sector. Throughout my career, I have prioritised the advancement of local government by championing professional development, mentoring emerging leaders, and encouraging councils to actively participate in industry associations.
My commitment is evident in my long-standing engagement with LG Professionals (previously LGMA and IMM), where I have contributed at both state and branch levels in Western Australia and Queensland. My leadership roles have included serving on the Queensland State Council and holding the position of President of the South West Branch for two years.
More recently, I played a key part in revitalising the Goldfields Esperance Branch, demonstrating my ability to inspire renewed energy and purpose within professional networks. These experiences have enabled me to foster collaboration among peers, drive innovation in local government practices, and promote the sharing of knowledge across regions.
Please outline your reasons in nominating to be a Board Member of LG Professionals WA.
I am nominating to be a Board Member of LG Professionals WA because I believe strongly in the transformative power of local government and the critical role LG Professionals WA plays in supporting and advancing the sector. My career has been shaped by extensive leadership experience across a diverse range of local governments, from small rural shires to large regional and metropolitan councils all giving me a broad understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.
I would bring a strategic lens informed by hands-on operational insight and a commitment to innovation. My work revitalising branches such as the Goldfields Esperance Branch demonstrates my ability to energise teams, foster collaboration, and deliver outcomes. I am passionate about ensuring LGPri remains a forward-thinking, inclusive organisation that provides meaningful opportunities for professional development, leadership growth, and sector-wide networking.
I also bring strong, constructive relationships with both state and federal government stakeholders. These networks, particularly within the State Government, would be an asset to LG Professionals WA in advancing advocacy efforts and influencing policy.
Please outline your skills and qualities that would help to enhance the Association as a Board Member.
As the current Vice President of the Institute of Public Administration Australia (WA) and an active member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, I bring a high level of governance expertise and corporate accountability to the Board. My experience in these roles has equipped me with a deep understanding of best practice in board operations, risk management, and strategic oversight, all of which will benefit LG Professionals WA. My involvement in government reviews and inquries, as well as my current membership on the Ministerial Advisory Group on Homelessness, demonstrates my commitment to evidence-based policy and advocacy.
I am adept at working collaboratively with state and federal government stakeholders and leveraging these relationships. I am also committed to professional development and capacity building. I have deveoped and delivered traingin programs in leadership, governance, project management, and quality improvement, and have mentored emerging leaders, all of which would be beneficial to the Board.
Please outline your priorities if successfully elected as a Board Member of LG Professionals WA.
If successfully elected as a Board Member of LG Professionals WA, my priorities will center on strengthening the associations leadership, relevance, and impact across the sector.
I am committed to helping guide the association through evolving challenges by championing best practices, advocating for members at all levels, and ensuring LG Professionals WA remains a trusted voice in local government.
A key priority will be to work effectively with the incoming CEO to ensure a smooth transition and alignment on strategic goals. I will support the CEO in building strong relationships, fostering innovations, and delivering values to members.
I will also focus on engaging constructively with the State Government and contributing to ongoing reform efforts. This includes helping guide the sector toward excellence in leadership and governance, and promoting best practice in professional development, networking, and collaboration.
