Lighthouse Project (2.0) Disability Reference Group

Expressions of Interest

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from people with a disability who are currently working in local government in WA to join the Lighthouse Project Disability Reference Group (DRG).

The Lighthouse Project aims to increase the employment of people with disability in WA local government. Local government is one of the biggest employers in most communities in Western Australia. Most have a stated intention to reflect their communities in their workforce. This makes their organisations both stronger and fairer.

However, the percentage of people with disability employed in WA local government is barely moving. The Lighthouse Project is seeking to hear and amplify the voices of people with disability who have experience of employment in local government - what works, what doesn't, key messages and priorities for positive change.

The DRG will meet five times over the course of the project. Attached to three of those meetings will be a session to discuss a relevant topic (to be decided by the DRG) that will be open for others to join in, either in person or by video conference. The discussions will be used to prepare short papers. Once approved by the DRG, these will be added to the Lighthouse resource library, published on the LG Professionals WA website and promoted throughout the project.

Each meeting is also aligned to a key milestone of the project so the group will have direct input. The milestones are: workshop and grant program design; grant assessments; CEO of the Year Award; survey design and evaluation.

In addition to the benefits for the project and the sector from your participation, we are committed to providing an enjoyable, high quality professional development and collegial experience.

The first meeting will be held in Perth on Monday 6 May 2019. The following meetings will be in July 2019, October 2019, February 2020 and June 2020 (exact dates to be confirmed). For non-metro participants, the cost of travel, accommodation and meals will be covered.

The Lighthouse Project was initiated in 2016. It has recently been redesigned as the Lighthouse Project (2.0) under the NDIS Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) stream. In WA, the ILC is managed by the Department of Communities. The Lighthouse Project is delivered by LG Professionals with assistance from Localise and Marketing for Change.

To submit an expression of interest, please email lighthouse@lgprofessionalswa.org.au with your contact details and a summary of why you want to join the DRG, you should also include a letter of support from your employer. Expressions of interest should be received by 5pm, Friday 26 April 2019.

For further information please contact Christina Markie, Consultant at Localise on 08 8271 1030.
