Vale Trevor Ruland





The President, Board and staff of LG Professionals WA extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Trevor Ruland on his sad passing.

Trevor was a respected and dedicated figure in local government, his career spanned an impressive 47 years, during which he served in various capacities across five local governments.

Trevor began his career in 1956 with the City of Perth, where he held various administrative positions for 16 years. He then served as Assistant Shire Clerk for the Town of Narrogin from 1973 to 1975. From 1975 to 1978, Trevor was the Shire Clerk for the Shire of Laverton, followed by a 16-year tenure as Shire Clerk for the Shire of Katanning from 1978 to 1994. His final role was as Chief Executive Officer for the Shire of Roebourne from 1994 until his retirement in 2003. In total, Trevor spent 28 years as a Shire Clerk or CEO.

Trevor's contributions extended beyond his official roles. He held a Diploma in Local Government and was a prominent member of LG Professionals WA (then known as Institute of Municipal Management), joining as a student member in 1967 and becoming a Fellow Member in 1982. He served as President of the Cranbrook Branch and North Branch, was the inaugural CEO of Pilbara Regional Council, and played a key role in introducing Western Australia local government to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Additionally, Trevor was Chairman of the Great Southern Regional College and a Board Member of Karratha College.

Trevor also served as the Executive Director of the Australia Day Council. His legacy includes significant contributions to industry initiatives and improvements to local government systems, participation in numerous working groups and committees, and serving terms as LG Professionals WA (then LGMA WA) State President and National President of LG Professionals Australia (then LGMA).

In 2003, Trevor was awarded the LGMA Medal in recognition of his dedication and contribution to the local government sector.

Trevor's dedication and service to local government have left an incredible mark on the community, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
